The Yellow-billed Amazon is endemic to Jamaica, found nowhere else in the world. They primarily inhabit tropical and subtropical rainforests, limestone hills, and wet limestone forests at elevations ranging from sea level up to 1200 meters. They are highly dependent on forested environments for food, nesting, and shelter. In the wild, they follow a herbivorous diet consisting mainly of fruits, berries, seeds, flowers, nuts, and tender leaves.

The Yellow-billed Amazon is know for its social and vocal nature, often emitting loud, raucous calls while flying above the canopy or perching high in the trees. During the breeding season, they form monogamous pairs and nest in tree cavities, where the female lays 2–4 white eggs. Both parents participate in rearing the chicks, which fledge about 8-10 weeks after hatching. The Yellow-billed Amazon is classified as Vulnerable by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) due to habitat loss, illegal trapping for the pet trade, and deforestation.
